Strategic naval deployment in Arabian Sea ensured full operational readiness during India's counter-terror operation
New Delhi, May 11, 2025:
Vice Admiral AN Pramod confirmed on Sunday that the Indian Navy was fully prepared to carry out decisive maritime and land-based strikes, including potential targets in Karachi, during Operation Sindoor—India's comprehensive counter-terrorism mission launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
Speaking at a tri-services press conference alongside top Army and Air Force officials, Vice Admiral Pramod stated that Indian naval forces were strategically forward-deployed in the Arabian Sea, maintaining a “decisive posture” and complete operational readiness to strike at any time.
“During Operation Sindoor, our naval assets were pre-positioned in forward locations in the Arabian Sea, equipped to neutralize key targets, including Karachi, if and when necessary,” said Vice Admiral Pramod.
Background of Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a retaliatory measure following the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 26 innocent civilians were killed by Pakistan-sponsored militants. While the Indian Army and Air Force executed precision strikes on terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), the Navy played a critical role in maritime surveillance and deterrence.
Full Maritime Surveillance and Strategic Supremacy
Vice Admiral Pramod revealed that Indian naval surveillance forced Pakistan’s naval fleet into a largely defensive stance, restricting its activities to harbors and near-coastal zones. “We ensured uninterrupted monitoring of Pakistani naval movements, maintaining complete maritime domain awareness throughout the operation,” he noted.
This calculated deployment by the Indian Navy ensured that Pakistan was unable to mobilize its naval assets freely, effectively limiting its options in the Arabian Sea.
A Measured and Responsible Response
Highlighting the professionalism and restraint exercised by Indian forces, the Vice Admiral stressed that the operation was conducted with a clear objective: neutralizing terror threats while avoiding unwarranted escalation.
“Our actions have been precise, proportionate, and non-escalatory, in line with India’s long-standing policy of responsible defense and zero tolerance towards terrorism,” he asserted.
Conclusion
Operation Sindoor underscores India's evolving joint operational strategy, where coordinated actions by the Army, Navy, and Air Force create a multi-dimensional deterrent against cross-border terrorism. As regional tensions simmer, India has sent a clear message: any act of terror will be met with strength, strategic foresight, and full-spectrum preparedness.
